Faris McGrath | Head CoachI have held the position of head coach at Hazel Grove Tennis Club since March 2023. I have significantly grown over 14 coaching programmes across all ages and abilities. This also includes men’s’ and women’s’ first, second and third team trainings as well as adult improvers and rusty racquets, a class tailored to those starting again after a long period out of the sport. I also run very successful cardio tennis sessions to improve fitness, coordination and enjoyment.

Playing
My tennis experience began at the age of 7. I have competed at national and international level. Having formally competed on the British tour this has enabled me to compete at elite venues/events such as Road to Wimbledon and at Roehampton Tennis Centre.
After my college studies, I decided to go full time with tennis and trained at the Khalifa Tennis Complex in Qatar where I competed in Future and ITF tournaments in the surrounding middle east.
Whilst studying business at university I competed in the university team and alongside this I completed my coaching qualifications.

Coaching
I have spent the last 8 years coaching at venues such as David Lloyd clubs and teaching all levels from sponge ball to performance country players.
Alongside coaching, over the last 3 years I have just completed a PGCE in education, focusing on my tennis teaching which has significantly progressed my own professional development as a tennis coach. In my final year I focused on inclusivity in many areas including learning needs of very diverse students, helping them to feel safe and thrive in racquet sports environments.
I specialise in technical and tactical areas in 1-1 sessions and team training and am passionate about supporting players to understand the game on a fully integral level.
I have progressed players from junior club level to county standard and pride myself on the dedication and support I provide my players throughout their tennis career, from grass roots to performance. All whilst empowering them to enjoy the game and their love of sport.
